Berry also unsuccessfully fought the seat of [[Bristol (European Parliament constituency)|Bristol]] for the [[European Parliament]] in [[1984 European Parliament election in the United Kingdom|1984]]. Berry was selected to contest the marginal seat of Kingswood at the [[1987 United Kingdom general election|1987 general election]] but was defeated by Conservative [[Robert Hayward, Baron Hayward|Robert Hayward]] by over 4,000 votes.
