There are examples of field armor without, like one of Henry VIII's suits, but that suit is also missing buttplates and rear tassets/skirt, suggesting it was actually designed for mounted combat. The suits designed specifically for foot combat cover the butt as well as the feet in lames, and they don't hinder mobility at all. Strikes to the feet are also prominently shown in combat manuals of the time.
