Franz Sparry (28 April 1715 – 7 April 1767;<ref>"Oestreichs Prälaturen" (incl. biography of Franz Sparry), in Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung, no. 28, columns 457–460. 15 July 1829</ref> also known as Josef Sparry) was a composer of the Baroque period.
Sparry was born in Graz, and studied at the University of Salzburg<ref>Oxford Music Online entry. Accessed 31 March 2015</ref> before joining the Benedictine order. He subsequently went back to Salzburg to study theology, and began his career as a composer; he wrote a Tafelmusik, his best-known work. From 1747 he was director of music at Kremsmünster Abbey.<ref>Howard E Smither, A History of the Oratorio, vol. 3. University of North Carolina Press, 1987. Template:ISBN. p. 44</ref> He died in Kremsmünster.
