Bạc Liêu ({{#invoke:IPA|main}}) is a provincial city and capital of the Bạc Liêu Province in the Mekong Delta region in southern Vietnam. It is a medium-sized town with a population of 156,110 in 2019.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> The former name of the city is Vĩnh Lợi.<ref>Richard Tregaskis south-east Asia: Building the Bases: The History of Construction in South East Asia. History

The name Bạc Liêu is based on the Chinese pronunciation of a Khmer name<ref>Nghia M. Vo Saigon: A History - 2011 - Page 22 "Although Bạc Liêu has no meaning in Vietnamese, it was derived from the Chinese pronunciation of a Khmer name, ...".</ref> (Pol Leav ពលលាវ in Khmer).
